Petty question, but I have a light fixture in my front porch thats flush with the celiing. I am looking to replace it with a hanging kind. Wondering if there are "major" issues during high winds...?glass breaking or anything like that..

We have a hanging fixture and never had any issues even during Ike.

I have a hanging porch light. Hurricane Ike smashed it against the wall and it shattered. I might have been able to prevent that if I had thought to secure it before the storm came, though.

It has never been affected by any other strong winds.

that helps... i guess with the "beauty" of it, comes the responsibilty of securing it i take that as a good suggestion. After all, what are the odds of another Ike hitting Katy

My parents have a massive hanging front porch light and they have it secured with fishing line. It's virtually invisible and keeps it stable during windy days. A hurricane would surely break the lines, though.
