I was thinking of things the state government might be able to achieve but yes that would also be a good idea. Could the state declare itself a tolerance zone in defiance of the feds?

Somehow I don't see theoretical Houston coffeeshops being as gezellig as their Dutch counterparts however.

Houston does have a lot of neat little things to see that aren't boring to everyone - The Menil, a lot of folk art, Space Center Houston, San Jac Battlefield, HMNS, and the Museum of Funeral History. The only things the city needs to add is a decent history museum and some real festivals like you find in other cities, usually funded in part with hotel tax revenue.

I guess I will not take that personally.

Let me share where you can find some of the exciting fun things that are happening in and around downtown Houston.
Blame it on the Houston media for the not getting the word out about downtown Houston. The local media tends to focus on the negatives and don't spend enough time showing the positives about Houston.

There are boat tours and canoe tours on Buffalo Bayou, an annual White Oak bayou fishing tourney and I could go on, or you could visit Midtownlive and discover them for yourself.

Maybe this was what he was trying to link to?

Anyway, he's got a point - I blame the local media more than the city (as in the city government) for a lot of the image problems, and a lot of things. It's horrible. The local radio, the mainstream paper, the "alternative" paper, everything. Probably every other month the Houston Press does some whiny article on why the music scene here isn't like Austin's or something like that, instead of actually doing something constructive like promoting shows that are happening here. They're like some of the people who post on this forum, except they're actually getting paid to be part of the problem they're complaining about.

A red-light-district would probably bring in lots of money and tourists.
