Any suggestions on a church located preferably around the Houston/Galveston area? About us - Young AA family, nondenominational. We're in the process of relocating and will live in either Webster or League City. Our current church has around 5K members, with 4 Sunday services, we're looking for someplace similar. Not particularly interested in a megachurch. Any suggestions?

If you're looking for a church that is not a mega church, but a church similar to your 5000 member congregation you attend now...I'm confused.

Clarify what you mean by megachurch.

By megachurch I mean stadium or arena type seating. Even though we have a large congregation our church does not hold more than several hundred people at a time, we have three different locations, and each locations has at least two services on Sundays. I should have been more specific.

I'm ok with a large church but I don't want to feel like I'm going to a basketball game or concert when attending.

University Baptist Church in Clear Lake (which is very close to Webster/League City) is a church you should visit at least once. We now live in Nor-Cal and there just is not a comparable church here in this area. University Baptist Church, Houston TX 77059 | 281-488-8517

I was surprised to find that Dr. Creech is leaving, but knowing the leadership, I know they will find a worthy successor.

[mod edit -need 10 post to link off site] There is a Calvary in Friendswood. 2 services. 9 and 11. Contenporary worship. Verse-by-verse teaching. No basket going around(box in hallway-your responsibility) Somewhat large. 2 miles from Webster. You'll be glad you visited!

Gateway Community Church - good strong church but not mega/mega.

You have to go hear their pastor - Randy Hageman - before making a decision on your church!

(Actually you can listen online to see if it might or might not be your "cup of tea!")

(I am a colleague - and know Randy - but I am not aware of the level of inclusiveness at Gateway, if that is an issue. HOPE Church in Pearland also comes to mind - it is predominantly African American.)

A great church in Houston is New Beginning Worship Center on Aldine Westfield (near Parker & 59). It's a small, but growing, Spirit-Filled, Multi-cultural church with a mix of hymns, contemporary, and R&B music. Practical teaching that helps me with everyday life.

I was going to reply before I saw it was 2009 when the thread started - but I will put this out anyway.

Bibleway Fellowship Baptist Church

The pastor can be heard on 105.7 FM on Tuesday mornings from 10-10:15.
