I went there maybe two years ago, and was not very impressed considering some of the hype I'd heard. Then again, R&B is really not my thing.

I went to Midtown once and it was okay.

Really used to enjoy downtown 8-10 years ago. I guess it's asking too much for something like that again. Sugar Land Town Square is way more happening than downtown Houston lately the last few times I went.

Is Rice Village still fun?

Haven't tried Washington Ave yet.

Not like I go out often these days. So the few times I do, I'd like it to be worth it.

It's not my scene (I don't think I have one) but Washington is pullin out all the stops. New fancy places opening up everyday it seems. Some obviously have some big money behind them. It's close enough to me, to be accessible, but not close enough to be the pain you know it is to the locals. Valet parking abounds up and down the street.

Haha you have made that exact/similarly related comment about the Red line many times in the past. However, nothing you can say can change the fact it connects Houston's largest and second largest employment centers. It may not effect you, but there are people who rely on it.

Back to the OP. The great thing about Houston's nightlife is the is pretty diverse.

Sugar Land Town Square is more happening than Downtown Houston....

Yikes! Nightlife in Houston really is suffering!

Nightlife takes many forms, largely segregated by socio-economics

In Manhattan or Houston, or any other city w/a powerful business culture, lots of young guys have more money than time to waste bar-hopping or hanging out until 2-3AM (esp when many traders arrive at office <6AM)...the inverse of backwater, underemployed towns like Atlanta or Miami or Austin

Much of drinks culture in a workaholic town is post-work drinks at a bar near one's office; hotties in any major town seem to know which are these bars; and $15-20/drink seems to "screen out" crowd of riff-raff

And agree, whoever does hiring for young ladies at Hou's major high-income employers: energy cos., law firms, financial firms, etc, does a much, much better job than the HR morons at NYC's major financial firms

For many young financiers in Manhattan, some of favorite business trips, w/enjoyable evening entertainment, are visits to Hou or Dall

I know people ride it. they have no choice. There are no longer buses on Main street. I've had to ride it myself. Do you remember the Shuttle buses down town? You could ride them for a nickle. they only covered the shoppin areas of Main street. which sadly, are no more.

Bars alone will not keep a Down Town vibrant. People want and deserve more.

Isnt that what killed the downtown scene, too many new clubs were opening up??? There are only so many people into club culture and the trust funders who support them have very short attention spans, they change with music style. I agree with you that its more a work city and people will frequent bars more than clubs.
