We have been in the Houston area for a year now, and my son started middle school in August at Lake Olympia Middle School. The school rules seem to be so harsh, and it feels more like a boot camp than a positive learning environment. My son got Saturday detention for talking in the bus line. They start the punishment with Saturday detention for a first offense, then it moves on to suspension and expulsion. Has anyone else had any problems with this school and their rules. They have crazy lunch rules and certain locker times. Maybe this is to be expected in a bigger city???

That school, and the neighborhoods that it feeds into, have been going downhill for quite some time. They need toughness to enforce any sort of order.

Trust me, they have it good there.

Sounds like a school with lots of past discipline problems.

I guess the biggest concern should be if your son is getting a quality education.

For talking in the bus line? I live in San Antonio and that would just get a warning. Not Saturday detention. And that's even in the bad-discipline-problems schools.

Wasn't someone asking about a subdivision zoned to this school (Lake Shore Harbor or something) and was told the school was good?

If they have a rule regarding talking in the bus line, it's gotta be for a reason. I've never heard of such a thing.
