I'm moving to Houston next year with my family. My dd will be entering high school, and we're trying to find a decent affordable apartment in a nice neighborhood. What areas of Houston should we consider? We've already heard to avoid Greenspoint or Gunspoint to some. Are there other areas like that that we should steer clear of? Also, I'm looking to place my child in one of those academically rigorous public high schools, so if y'all know of the areas that will feed into one of those schools, that would be great.

There are several good school districts, where will you be working?

Champions area is not what it use to be. It has lost its value.

Need more information about budget, amenities wanted, willingness to commute, etc. The Houston metro is so entirely large it will make it easier to narrow things down..

Energy companies are mainly downtown or West of town in the 'Energy corridor'. If he works in a plant those are on the East and SE side of town. Commute time is an issue in Houston so knowing where the job is based will help define better neighborhoods.

Default Cyfair School District - Cywoods or CyRanch High

You should live near where you work but if you are wanting good High Schools.. intown.. I like Bellaire otherwise go to the Burbs.
Katy, The Woodland, or Cypress which is 20 miles Northwest...
I like CyRanch or CyWoods.
There is a nice apartment across the street from Cywoods.
