Hi there. For the time being, we have a DMO and need to choose a primary dentist in the Clear Lake area. I see there are several dentist "chains" in the area (Royal, Castle, Lovett, Carus, etc) and wondered if anyone has words of advice about these....especially ones to AVOID.

Asking because Dallas has a few chains, and they're not too great.

Thanks in advance!

My DMO uses those chains and after I read a bunch of reviews online, I'm so scared that I'm paying out of pocket to see a dentist not affiliated with my DMO. And I'm changing my dental insurance at the earliest opportunity.

I don't care for any of the chains. Dr. Tieken in South Shore Harbour is great. A couple of other good ones along Clear Lake City Blvd. between Highway 3 and El Camino - can't think of the names but if you drive along there you'll find them.

I can assure both Castle and Royal are crap. They have lots of sales people that try to push "upgrades" and unnecessary services on you. They hate hearing NO. So I told them to F off and went with an independent dentist.

For example, several years ago when I need to have my wisdom teeth pulled. Castle wanted almost $4000 out of pocket above and beyond what insurance covered. Royal (which seems to be run by a bunch of greedy Arab people) wanted $5300, because they needed to "rebuild my mouth" ...I said let me think about it in both instances and canceled as soon as I got home. in the end I got a great referral to a oral surgeon that charged me $200 out of pocket and total was only $8xx.

You may have to drive a bit to get care. I drive across town. I use GMS Dental and have been pleased with their services over the years.

Thanks for the replies. You confirmed my suspicions. We'll pick one of the FEW independent dentists on our DMO and hopefully get out of DMO when my husband starts his new job later this year.

I used them because of my DMO. I like both dentists that I used at Castle, but their management is crap... total crap. They overbilled me and then threatened to send me to collection agency. Then they would not want to discuss their error. I had to climb my way up their company ladder and then finally got the issue resolved 6 months later. Instead of me owing them $500, they owed me $500 - a convenient $1K error.

My wife is still pissed off with the ortho from Castle. She want to go somewhere else to get another opinion after having to wear braces for 2 years, just to be told, that "that's the best we can do". They promised one thing but did not deliver.

Now I have a new plan where I get to pick a dentist.

Anyone got suggestions on a dentist? And ortho?

I've always been happy with an independent dentist.

I had a "dental emergency" and the only dentist that could see me at 6:00 on Christmas Eve was at a chain dentist place in Katy. They did a pretty darn good job!
