I will be moving somewhere around the Galleria/Montrose area and want to stake out some possible gyms to check out next weekend when I make the trip to look at apartments.

I'm a bodybuilder so preferably a place with a great weight room.

There are lots of gyms all around Houston. I worked out at Lifetime Fitness in Town and Country and IMO it is the best gym in the city! But expensive!

You also can find around town:
L.A. Fitness
24 Hour Fitness
Bally Total Fitness

Try this link for locations: Let me google that for you (http://tinyurl.com/m9zmcv - broken link)

Hope this helps and good luck in your search!

I'd pick lifetime. They got the best weight rooms in my opinion.

I am not sure if it is still there but there was a very serious bodybuilding gym in Bellaire called Hanks Gym. I heard Hank passed a few years back but google it just in case.

There is also a serious work out gym connected next to a wonderful Restaurant called the Thai Gourmet Restaurant on Richmond at Unity Drive it is a very serious about work out facility. The restaurant actually serves many of the trainers from that gym…they severe very healthy delicious food prepared for the most finicky! It is the best Thai Restaurant in all of Houston IMO!

There aren't any Bally's inside the loop now (West U closed), but Fit on W Gray and 24hr in Midtown are both pretty new and worth checking out. I use the 24hr and really like it, but all of these good inner loop gyms can get really crowded after work. I work out early in the morning and it's fantastic at that time.

24hr is expanding their Richmond/610 location right now (not sure when it will open up), and LA Fitness is opening above Costco on Richmond in the fall, I think, so keep those locations in mind.

24 Hour Fitness. For the best deal, get the pre paid. Its like $800 upfront, this is good for 3 years. Then you would pay like $49 every year after 3 yearse for the rest of your life.
