I am moving to Houston by end of June and would like to know which is the best mobile carrier? What are best deals available now?

Thanks for your help.

The most people here got t-mobile ( at least everybody I know does ). It's also slightly cheaper. You will need to shop around and see for yourself. The plans are all different.

I (and all of my friends) have AT&T. I don't think "most people here get T-Mobile".

Personally, I don't think any one carrier is predominant. You've got AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon probably in about the same percentages, and there are other smaller carriers.

All of them work about the same (dropped calls! grrr...). I was griping to the AT&T rep about dropped calls in the apartment complex when I first moved here; I told him I couldn't believe I would run out of tower in Houston! He said, "You won't. Your phone is trying to access about 25 towers at any one given time in Houston, because there are so many." What was happening was, my phone was trying to access an AT&T and a Verizon tower simultaneously, and was flipping back and forth between them = lots of dropped calls.

Just shop around and go with whichever has the best plan to suit your particular lifestyle.

Well that's interesting... anyone I know with T-Mobile has eventually dropped them. Can't say from firsthand experience, but what I hear most are complaints about coverage issues.

I've had Verizon and AT&T (formerly Cingular formerly Houston Cellular) and I'd recommend either of these. Pick the one that gives you the best combination of phone deal and voice/text/data package that meets your needs. I changed to AT&T only because that's who my employer has a preference for and their network technology is more compatible with using your phone internationally.

Consumer's Reports has ranked Verizon at the top in their rankings for many years (national and local ratings). Sprint is consistently stuck near the bottom.

Most people I know have AT&T, mainly for the iphone. I have Sprint and while I have never had a problem with them or with dropping calls, I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend them since other people seem to complain a lot about Sprint.

Myself and my wife had T-Mobile for years and switched recently due to the Iphone.
Quality wise ATT seems a bit weaker in signal and we have a tendency to losing signal or maybe I never noticed with TMobile. *Shrug*

I do believe T-Mobile has the largest share in Houston. At least those who I called has tmobile. I would never use up my minutes due to the mobile to mobile feature.

I've had Verizon for a number of years and have been very happy with their reliability and strength of signal. I have had maybe one or two dropped calls in the last five years.Their customer service for the most part is crappy but I think that is par for the course for all carriers.

Verizon irritates me tremendously with their horrendous customer service and their stupid policies about upgrading phones but their network is excellent and I never have dropped calls. I had AT&T for awhile and I had so many dropped calls and such poor signal strength, I demanded to be released from my contract and they gave in, especially when I showed them live in their store how weak their signal was with both my phone and my wireless air card.
