There are a lot of transitional/halfway-house type establishments in the area, but also a lot of moderately sophisticated night spots and good restaurants. It is very convenient to the excellent Museum District. Anyone who says Houston lacks character has definitely not spent enough time in Montrose.
You got that everywhere....gas stations/CVS etc. That's not only that area.

This does not typically happen in nicer suburban areas of the Midwest or the Northeast, despite the economic nightmare there. Yeah, it happens downtown, outside of ballparks, etc. but not in areas similar to Pearland. It is always disconcerting when basically asked to take out your wallet in an unmonitored area.
