I'm looking to move to Houston in September. I'll be working downtown mainly with occasional out of town trips lasting all week (so just home on the weekends probably flying out of Bush International).

I'm married but don't have any kids but will soon and will probably be there for about 5 or 6 years while the kids come. I would like to be close to the water as I would like to sail but its not a requirement. Any suggestions as to where to look for housing considering everything?

I've heard alot about the Woodlands, and I like the Clear Lake area. I worry about the commute from the Clear Lake area. Does the tollway near the Woodlands make the commute into downtown pretty easy. Or is everything about the same?

Try NW Harris County by the racetrack

Affordable prices, 16 miles to downtown via 290/610 and about 20 to Bush Interncontinental airport via the north loop.

Nah, try NE Houston. A lot closer to Downtown and takes a lot less time to get there. Try the neighborhoods of Eagle Springs or Fall Creek. 290 has way to much traffic, but US 59 is a quick shot in.

Go to CLear Lake or Kemah.... Clear Lake has excellent schools... Kemah is growing... I would say the commute for both is a washout.... and for travel you have Hobby Airport. If I did not live inside the loop I would choose Kemah or clearlake because we sail..... and love the water... with children you can't go wrong with Clear Lake.

We went to Cirque Soleil last night... which is in that area by the race track.. NO WAY you would get me to live there. We were commenting though how much it has grown..,but its warehouse city... IMHO it will be the new Gunspoint of tomorrow.

You people trying to get the poster killed? Much of NW/NE & Southeast Houston is notoriously dangerous, that's where the hoods are at. The poster might want to consider Midtown, a short drive into the city center although far from the water.

You kidding me? Maybe in inner Houston, but once outside the Beltway, it isn't like that at all. On the northeast side, you don't even have to be outside the Beltway before it starts getting better, especially around Lake Houston Parkway.

Fall Creek sounds perfect for you. 15 miles to downtown. 10 miles to Bush. Just down the road from Lake Houston. Safe, upscale, friendly.

Also, Lakeshore is also nice. Check them out at www.lakeshore-houston (broken link) dot com. This neighborhood would put you right on Lake Houston. ~K~

So what does that leave? SW Houston?
