Just wanted to know if anyone knows of a hole-in-the-wall place that has excellent prices on granite countertops.

Also, any place that has excellent deals on all kitchen renovation items -

thanks!

I got some really nice granite installed for around $40 from this place:

They may have some "budget" pieces available. Talk to Raj.

ROCK FIN ONLINE

The place is on Gessner and Hempstead Hwy.

I dont know about style but mine is New Uba Tuba(sp) with a rounded double edge. They insisted I do the window sill, which I wouldnt have thought of, and it looks great. It would have looked unfinished if I had decided against it.

$40 SF !?!?!?!
You have been raped. And raped royally. Sheesh we sell it for $35 SF installed price and it's not even our primary product.

Only Home Depot and Lowes charges more then $40 SF and that price is for just the material. They charge another $25 SF or so for the installation and charge extra for sink and/or range cut outs and even more for faucett holes.

I spend much spare time helping others in the HOUSE or INTERIOR DESIGN forums right here on City Data. You could do a forum search on my desertsun41 cabinets and learn from the best.

If you choose to buy randomly I can only scream to you: DO NOT PAY LIST PRICE. You would not pay list price/MSRP for your new car so why would anyone pay it for cabinets and countertops? You would of course in the big box stores pay full list price. Today many home improvement type businesses have adopted my business plan of selling to everyone at 50% off list price. In this economic depression stores must drop their prices.

Good luck

This was few years back when the builder business was booming and getting anyone to do any job was hard. I was getting quotes for redoing just my kitchen for $40K to $50K, and ended up doing it myself for $25K (that's kitchen, bathroom, all flooring in the house and marble on fireplace). Eveyone was sooo expensive to do anything. I got very bad repsonse from many contractors.

I completely agree with Desertsun that now you can get it alot cheaper. It worked for my need and my schedule at the time.

That being said, I don't know if I have been raped royally: I spend $2500 for granite and at $35/sq ft I would have paid ~$2000 - a difference of $500. That's only 2% of the budget that I had. And I had the granite at my convenience and when I wanted it. So I was happy. I know I might have done better, but I was working full time and managing lazy a$$ workers that were stretched between several jobs because there was so much work for everyone.

I dont get it. You asked for help finding the bargains and then here you just posted that you already did the whole job 2 years ago. What did I miss?

Anyway your example on the 2% of the granite budget is smart thinking if it all worked out for you. And I really understand what you mean about the lazy workers.

Congrads on doing it all yourself. DIY usually is a scary word to professionals but from the pics it seems like you did good. Love the maple natural shaker doors though I'm not much of a full overlay euro style fan. Pretty granite too.

Good luck !

It wasn't me. I was just replying to the original post from Mirjaja.

Thanks for the compliments. I like doing work around the house. I redid the first bathroom all by myself, and learned the hard way to hire someone who knows what they are doing (tile, carpentry, etc..). I sill manage the project as I need to be in control of finances and such rather than just handing over a check to general contractor.

Now it's time to do the driveway and back patio.

I agree with your post about shopping around. Otherwise people will get raped.
