It seems as though all the organic markets in Houston are west or southwest of town (Sugar Land has one?). Are there any organic markets (Whole Foods, food co-ops, etc.) on the east or southeast of the city?

No, not really. There is some sort of true farmer's market co-op over by Monica Pope's restaurant off S. Main and Alabama, and that would be about the closest.

Mi Tienda in Pasa-get-down-dena isn't organic, but it has proven to be a surprise hit with the foodies:

The only one I know of is DiLorios (I think that's the spelling of the name) in Hempstead. They've got some really great stuff.

There's also a small stand on the corner of FM 1488 and FM 149 in Magnolia.

I think Katy has a farmer's market on Saturday's off Mason or Fry road.

Sorry, I know those aren't the areas you were asking about, but they're the only ones I know of.

Sugar Land has a nice Whole Foods Market, but that's Southwest.

I have lots of friends in Southeast Houston and I interrogated them extensively about organic grocery stores in Southeast Houston because we were house hunting there. They tell me that they drive into central Houston for organic grocery shopping.

Love Frobergs, while not organic most of their produce is locally grown, with exceptions like bananas and apples some fruit shipped in from out of state. I have had great experience with them. The vegtables keep for about two to three weeks since they are fresh out of the ground. Plus I get the added benefit of supporting the local farmers.

Nope. Nothing over here in the SE or Eastern side of Houston. Face it - we're basically the red-headed stepchildren of Houston.

Heck, we don't even have a bookstore that doesn't have the word Adult in front of it!

Not in Houston, but there is a Barnes and Noble on Fairmont @ Beltway 8.

Haven't looked lately, but there was a small farmer's market on the South side of Spencer by the LaPorte Airport.

Yup! That one, and the poor excuse for a bookstore in the San Jacinto Mall in Baytown are the closest ones to me. I'm sincerely hoping they build one on BW 8 and Wallisville, across the highway from PetsMart and Johnny Carino's. I would seriously do the Dance of Joy!

I wouldn't call Clear Lake a dump...but to each their own.

There are also some nice areas that are not in Houston but are on this side of town.
