They are not the same. KHovnanian is a basic tract home builder, but they are not KB Homes. I have heard bad things about lots of different tract home builders, but nothing as bad as KB!

Default KHovnanian is good

I had a very very good time building with KHovnanian. They were organized, timely, and always returned calls and answered questions. I got two huge welcome baskets and a free garage door opener. They also cut my grass for free 3 times when I first moved in. The first year you can fix things for free, and they come out right away. They are tract homes, but do a great job

Default Read contract carefully

Please read your contract carefully. I had to cancel a contract due to family reasons and they kept my whole 15k earnest money. The only expense they incurred was the building permits and supposed impact fees - no home building began. I researched the fees online and they were 10k even though they said the paid 17k. If they wanted to keep the 10k that is fine but they could have reimbursed the other 5k. If you read your contract, if you sue them no matter what you pay all fees - yours and theirs. Lesson learned for me in my book.

I bought a K Hovnanian home. Technically, Brighton was the home builder, but it says they're a K Hovnanian-owned company on my paperwork. It's a gorgeous house in a nice neighborhood (Tanglewilde in Baytown). This is an upper middle-class neighborhood. Definitely not a cheap KB.

K. Hov is a middle of the road generic builder, nothing especially bad or great about them. Like all tract builders be careful and hire your own inspector to help watch over the building process and you should be fine.
