Me, my husband and my 3 year old boy are thinking of buying a home in the Houston area. We live in a peaceful southern calif city (90% white population) with great schools. I don't know anything about Houston's suburbs. Can you guys help me out. Where is it safe for us as a family, good schools and in "commuting distance" to Houston? We are planing on spending between $150,000 and $200,000. All help and opinions are appreciated!!

Hi!

Katy or the Woodlands are probably best suited. They are great suburbs in commuting distance. Katy is West, and Woodlands is North. Katy is probably slightly closer to Houston in terms of commuting.

Katy definately has houses for around $200 (as well as much more!), and both areas have great schools.

Try har.com for some ideas.

Both these suburbs are predominantly white, however Houston is a wonderfully diverse city, and another suburb called SugarLand is equally as great but has large chineese, black, hispanic groups, however theres no tension or problems.

I would actually say in terms of things to do/restaurants and overall town planning (aethetics), SugarLand is probably best as it features some very 'toney' shops and eateries!
