I need information on what it's like to be single in Houston. Looking through these posts, I get the view that most people who are single are just out of college. I've lived in NY before where lots of people, even to 35 stay single for career. Do people get married very early in Houston? I don't want to be out of place as an older thirty-something single with no other older singles to mingle with.

Houston is a great city for singles of all ages. Plenty of singles (never married, no kids) in the 30's age range. Know plenty.

You'd probably want to stay in the more hip part of town, such as midtown or the areas around it. That's where the single 20s and 30s tend to live (although in a city the size of Houston, they can live anywhere), its where the trendier restaurants and clubs tend to be. There is also an abundance of lofts, townhomes, condos, and apartments in the area for a bachelor.

You'll find a mix of all types. I've never lived in NYC, but I'm guessing the median age for marriage here is probably a bit lower than that of theirs. I'm also guessing it's a more family friendly environment here too.

The select inner city places mentioned here are where it's at. It's all the rave among college grads who don't need any space. Clear Lake area may be the best suburban option if you want to go that route. There is an even mix of dinks, families, singles, divorcees, and retirees on my street here. It's a pretty good representation of the Houston side of the area, anyway. The hurricane wiped out some of the waterfront hangout spots but it'll eventually come back to normal.

I'll take a look at Midtown. What about Montrose and Downtown?
In NY, there are social cliques and it's hard to break into them. It's hard to make good friends cause NY is very transient.
I don't know anyone really in Houston. How friendly are Houstoners to new people in town? Do people let others easily into their 'cliques'?
