Hey Everyone,

In town looking at houses and we have pretty much narrowed our selection down to these 2 houses.

The houses are about the same in age and size (Champion house is about 500sq ft bigger) and both are zone Klein Schools as follows.

Champion

School District:KLEIN Elementary Sch: Theiss Middle Sch: Doerre High Sch: Klein

Tomball

School District:KLEIN Elementary Sch: Metzler Middle Sch: Hildebrandt High Sch: Klein Oak

Taxes on the Tomball house are .5 higher (3.1) vs the Champion house (2.6). Both are in Beautiful areas with large affluent homes. The Tomball house is about 30k cheaper and does have a nice gunite pool...then again the Champion house is right across the street from the community pool.

We are looking for a nice house/community that will hold its value for the next 7-10 years before we build a house of our own out in Magnolia

What are your thoughts?

I agree with Beto. My MIL has been subbing at Kleb Middle and Klein HS for 20 years--she can't get over how crappy it's gotten. I'd go Klein Oak all the way.

For apparently how "crappy" Klein High has gotten, their test scores are still higher than Klein Oak and Klein Collins. Its a good school.

What specific neighborhoods are the homes in?

I don't know anything about their test scores, so if you could provide a link that would be great.

I'm specifically talking about behavioral issues, drug use, etc. I apologize if I did not make that more clear (not that all schools don't have those issues, but my MIL has told me about Klein's major problems).

FYI... If you click on the school names in the original post you will get all the test scores, demographics etc.

I was also wondering what neighborhoods these 2 homes were in especially the 77375.

Hold value??? Um, yeah good luck with that one.Things in the core of Houston are going to have a hard time holding with the way things are going. The burbs are going to see a large drop in value no matter where they are. Have you seen the latest foreclosures for those areas?

Homes have held value in Houston because they aren't overpriced to begin with. New construction only gets about 5-7% over the actual cost to build already. Costs to build haven't actually fallen that much, so it sets a price stabilizer under most of the housing prices in the suburbs already.

I'd go with the Champions house. Klein is a great HS, always has been.

Either way.

My kids went to Kleb and Klein and have done very well. I am happy with the Champions area and the schools.
