My s-in-law is expecting a baby next month. A tree fell on their ranch style house, and the roof collapsed on 2 of the rooms. not livable right now. They have a five year old. Currently living with friends etc.

My questions are around what is the best strategy for them.

Q1. Should they look for corporate housing/furnished appartment in Woodlands ? Or away from Woodlands because of lack of power etc. ? Husband's job is in Woodlands. He was also thinking that close to woodlands may be better in terms of monitoring the repair on the house.

Q2. Your estimate for when the house may be livable again ? Days, weeks, or moths ?

Major structural repair is a long, drawn-out process. I would begin making arrangements for being out of the house for at least six months. I agree with the previous poster about contacting FEMA to research government support options as well as the insurance company. It is possible that the house may have been damaged to a degree that it is not a candidate for repair as well. Good luck to them.
