We are a family of 4 moving from New Jersey to Kingwood Texas. My wife and I have 2 children 8 and 5 years old. On the surface Kingwood looks nice with good schools I am told. What are the pros and cons of living in the livable forest.

Kingwood is a good place for a family. Fancy houses, lots of trails and parks and so on. It says something about how big Houston is, that I've never been there. I've driven past on the freeway a few times, but I've never had a reason to go there. I live about an hour away. That's probably its strength, but also its weakness. You're away from the problems of most of the city, but if you want to go to where most of the stuff is, west of Downtown, you will have to make a long drive.

Default Kingwood

Kingwood is about 21 minutes to Downtown (Minute Maid Park). 59 is best freeway in the area regarding traffic. My wife and I moved here from Sacramento and love it.

I love Kingwood. We live in the Humble area, but I find myself in Kingwood a lot for shopping, eating out, getting my hair done, etc. I think you will be very happy there.

Welcome!

Default Kingwood is Good

It a good community with a pretty solid HOA which is important in houston since we don't have zoning. You might want to check out The Woodlands if the location is viable. Moderator cut: advertising.

Welcome to Houston,
Stuart

Kingwood was annexed and is now part of the city of Houston. Try to stay in the unincorporated portion of the counties. Try the Woodlands I understand they have made a treaty with the city not to be annexed. (No I dont know how this works)

Default We live in Kingwood.

We moved to the Houston area from New Orleans last July. We are currently living in Kingwood (renting until we have a better feel for where we want to live). We chose Kingwood because my husband commutes some days to downtown Houston, and somedays up to Huntsville. This situation is only temporary until his new office is built, but we have really come to like Kingwood. We may be moving to the west side of Houston simply because we are applying to a private school with a special program for our son over there. But if we don't end up sending him there, we will probably buy a house in Kingwood and stay here.

We like Kingwood because it has a lot of established neighborhoods with mature trees, but also a good selection of "newer" homes. We like the forested look, greenbelt walking trails, and nice parks/playgrounds. As far as the commute to downtown, I think Hwy 59 provides the best commute time. We are about 24 miles to downtown Houston, and it takes my husband about 25 minutes on the days he goes there. Compare this to when we lived in New Orleans: we lived in a suburb 12 miles from the city, and it took us 40-50 minutes to get into town.

Good luck with your decision. We have been very happy living here so far.

Paula
