Spend at least 3 digits on each ceiling fan if you want good balance that will last 10+ years.

Default A few dollars more will get you the best

I had 5 ceiling fans installed about 3 years ago. Done alot of research and discovered the following:

The pitch of the blades makes all the difference. Forget about Lowes/Home Depot. They sell only cheap junk. The minimum blade pitch should be 14" with a motor that ranks a 5. Home Depot's fans are about 12 degree pitch which you have to run the speed at mid to high speed to just get the equivalent of 14 degree pitch fans running at the lowest speed setting.

On a scale of 1 to 5 for ranking motors, Home Depot's is on the average of about 2. The motor is too small and will not last. One the sites that explains about blade pitch and motor size is, I think, hansonwholesale. There are others. Sure these fans run anywhere from 225. to 650. range but they will last for ever, especially the better, casablanca, hunter, etc.
