It won't be too bad once the GP is completed by 2015.

There's really not enough between the two to make the commute anything other than your #1 priority.

I used to drive all the way to The Woodlands to work from Katy (west of 99) if you time it right it should take no longer than 50 minutes. Just remember the "6 o'clock" rule... Leave before 6 am (Katy) and after 6pm (TW) and you should be fine. 3 hours is a complete exaggeration.

I drove Woodlands to the EC back in 2006. It often WAS almost 3 hours round trip... Leaving just after 6am. But I left at 4:30 often, and well that was 90 minutes,in '06. can't imagine what its like now with the increased population and all the stupid congestion within TW.

No, you will visit your friends one or two times with the distance...then you'll decide to meet in the middle...then you'll meet once a year...then a sleep over will be suggested...then poof.

Again, if your husband is working in Memorial, I don't see the point to live in TW. Katy v. Woodlands...Both are very equal in so many ways...except for pine trees...

The way this city is growing, it ALWAYS feels like rush hour now. Crazy traffic all the time.

I live in Katy. My family lives south of Dallas. Many a Saturday mornings have been spent cursing as I drove from Katy to the Woodlands and it took 2-3 hours. So much so that I know take highway 6 to College Station and then cut over to 45.

Go with the shorter commute!

They are both fantastic in their own way. The schools are about the same...excellent. The Woodlands is very pretty and has good shopping. Katy has some wooded areas that are really nice too, but the shopping is not as good.(IMO) There is a very young population in Katy. Almost every house in our block was owned by families with children. (When we lived there.) The Woodlands will be more mixed ages, but still have families with children.

Agreed. I make it from The Woodlands to the Energy corridor in 45 minutes early morning (before rush hour). During the day it will take you an hour, but rush hour can be two hours. Also, they just started the grand parkway at 45. It will go directly to Katy. In two years, the commute will be even easier.

I wouldn't miss living in The Woodlands over family, but a commute every day is something to think about.

The best is we departed once at like 4:00 in the morning on a Saturday and got to TW in 55-65 minutes (empty highways asnd roads leading up to TW though, and of course we were driving above speed limit. Worst was 2 hours and between 30-45 minutes but we got caught in multiple accidents and it was around 6-7 when we left. Because of how deep we live in Katy and how deep our friends live in TW it often takes us 15-20 minutes just to get on the freeway and a good 15-20 minutes to find their house. We visit their house less than 5 times a year and we have been living in Houston for nearly 5-7 years. The worst though would be going the 90+ miles from an extreme edge on the island of Galveston if you go to the geographical extremes is incredible as of both places you hit nearly 100 miles of driving while in the same metro on the same highway for 80%+ of the trip which is incredible.
