We are most likely moving in November. We just found out about this possible relocation. My daughter will be starting Kindergarten in NJ in September; however, her birthday is Sept. 6th (our cutoff is Oct. 1st). If we move in November, does anyone know if she would transfer into Kindergarten in the Woodlands or would they still make her wait?

Also, is Kindergarten a half or a full day? I've seen some things mentioned about pre-kindergarten in the public school, is that for all children or not?

The Woodlands school system is part of Conroe ISD, which is who you will need to contact to be sure. But, I believe that if you child has already started Kindergarten in another school system, the school district will let you enroll you child in Kindergarten here even if they are too young for the school district's cutoff.

It was half day when I went, but that was 22 years ago. I'm not sure what it is now.

The best thing to do is contact the school district directly by phone. But if I had to guess, I would say your daughter would be accepted into Kindergarten because she was previously enrolled. I'm in near-by Tomball ISD and I'm pretty sure all the districts around this area are full day kindergarten. Any pre-K program offered through the school district is probably just for economically disadvantaged or ESL. Best to get the details straight from CISD.

There are Pre-K programs in CISD for children with disabilities (PPCD). Autism, speech delays, hearing impairments, or other developmental issues fall under that umbrella. It would be nice if CISD could get on the ball like Spring Branch ISD and build Pre-K schools that are for everyone.

Default Woodlands Kindergarten

We are in the Conroe ISD and live in The Woodlands. All Kindergarten is now full day in CISD. YOu can pull up their website at Welcome to Conroe Independent School District. and click on "Newcomers" or something to that effect. Hopefully they can answer your question, if you have not already gotten an answer. Good luck to you! We moved here in Nov 06. Feel free to email me with any other questions.

Also pre-K is only at schools that are below certain levels. Not sure what qualifies. Also, if your child needs help in a certain area, they can go to pre-k even if it is not offered at the school you are zoned to. The bus will even come and pick them up at home!
