I am a Washington State resident going to school in Texas. Out of state tuition costs at Houston Community College nearly triple in price for me because I am an out of state student, and I was wondering if there were any other junior colleges or universities that did not have an out of state tuition cost... possible a private school or something.

My parents are Washington State residents and they claim me for tax and what not, and I have only lived in Texas for about nine months. I do plan on going back to Washington when school is over. To make a long story short, I wanted to be with some friends and family down here for a couple years while getting some breathing room from the other half in Washington State. I am interested in finishing my school now.

Any advice??

If your parents don't mind not claiming you next year as a dependent, you could apply for residency- most states it's only a year of living in the state and then if you have had a job, drivers license, etc in said state, you can actually get in state- I know that school becomes so much cheaper if you become a resident

Private universities include Houston Baptist, St Thomas, and Rice. Not sure of their requirements though.

Privates are even more expensive. St. Thomas is about $2200 per course (for residents).

St. Thomas will probably be the cheapest private school you can find as they receive a subsidy from the Houston/Galveston Diocese.
