Hi - coming to Houston in 2 weeks, and looking to stay a little south of downtown, but still at a hotel where I can walk to the metro rail line. Looking for a decent hotel - up to $100/night. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

That is a tough question. I'm not aware of any hotels on the rail line anywhere near where you are talking about. You would probably be better off renting a car and getting a motel room on US 59 (Southwest Freeway). It's only a few minute drive from the area you described.

Well, there's Hotel ZaZa in the Museum District and a few others in the Medical Center farther along the line. Don't know about rates. Why south of downtown? There are quite a few hotels downtown near the rail line on Main.

Not real sure why that (little south of downtown) is your preference but if you want to be near the light rail line I agree with houstoner. The rail line runs through the Museum District and the Texas Medical Center. There are numerous hotels in that area. That area is basically southwest of downtown, 3-4 miles but 10-15 minutes by rail.

I found several using orbitz.com, Houston hotels, and click on "Museum District, Medical Center, Reliant Park". Several should meet your $100/night requirement.

Also, Google Earth (FREE at More Google Products) shows numerous hotels in and near the downtown area.
