I got the list of stores in my district and I'm still figuring out where to live. Where would you suggest I live that will be equally accessible to all of these locations? I'm looking for a more Urban setting, but am also very concerned about travel time/gas mileage. What kind of commute am I in for?

Looking to buy or rent? Apt. or home? If you are looking for urban - I would consider Montrose or the Heights.

I second that, what are your living requirements?

The most convenient location is Cypress, which isn't very "urban." You're going to be putting in the road miles wherever you go - there's no avoiding that. 290 is a pain, and it looks like you're going to be doing a lot of 290. Hope you're being well-compensated.

How often do you have to go to each location? If you live in the downtown "urban" area than your looking at maybe 2 hours each way to Brenham with traffic.

Brenham,... well, hopefully you can get a strong staff there and won't have to go there as often, that would be the worst commute. Since the balance of your stores are scattered from Baytown to Cypress, being in the middle would work as well as getting you a more urban setting.

Midtown & Memorial Heights would be the place for larger, newer apartment complexes with all the bells and whistles. Midtown would also get you closer to much of the current nightlife.

Montrose would have more of the urban setting with the old fourplexes, smaller older complexes, etc.

Heights is a little more quiet and laid back than Montrose and there are garage apts. and small houses available for rent in there.

Midtown and Heights rents are a little steep by Houston standards, but all things considered, you might as well be inside the loop. The Heights is a good place to be if you don't want the action to be right on your doorstep but not a far drive or bus ride away.

But yes, 290 is awful. And it looks like you've got a store on FM 1960, and I don't much care for driving 1960 either. Just prepare to look at traffic lights and taillights alike. If red happens to be your favorite color, well it might just be bearable. Otherwise it's stuff that's been known to make people crazy. That intersection of 290 and FM 1960/Highway 6 is probably my most cited "the traffic really sucks here" spot in the Houston area, and there's not really anything inside the loop that compares to that.

Try looking at some of the new complexes along TC Jester inside the loop (Timber Grove area). Easy acess to 610 and 290 as well as easy access to downtown nightlife and your routes out I-10.
