Generally, no, but there are many homes with basements. I remember when I lived in El Paso, some homes had basements, usually the nicer, older homes. No worries about flooding there!

But would you believe, there are homes with basements in Montrose?! Yes, I went into one on Avondale. It was small, but is sure surprised the heck out of me. Also, it was dry and had no odors to it that you normally get when there is dampness.

I was only going to reply on the basement thing, but since I am here, have you considered an older home, one story? That is what we did, and we found our home in Katy, it was a big house all on one floor. Now we live in Montrose, and all of the rooms are upstairs, but I have found myself getting lazier as I age. It is not a physical thing, 'just don't like having to go up and down stairs much.
