What times of year and how often do you have weather where you can turn off the AC or Heat and just open the windows?
Thanks!

My heat and a/c have been off for about a month now. We are starting to reach the point of turning back on the a/c. The humidity levels are starting to rise again and for my personal comfort it is starting to get too muggy.

Yep. Mine has been off for 1 1/2 months too, but...I may just have to turn it on tonight (sigh). Will have to wait for fall again.

Thanks.
Sounds like Oct/Nov & March/April. How about Nov-Feb. Is it heat on during the colder nights and windows open on pleasant days?
Just trying to compare with Chicago weather. From mid-May through early October you can do 40-60% open windows depending on humidity tolerance. We will have stretches of 75-85 degree weather with humidity under 55% mixed in with days of 85+ and humid where AC goes on. The only thing that gets me through the winter is the open window season. My sister-in-law lives in Tampa and almost never opens windows year round-claims the humidity will ruin furniture. I cannot handle that. I'm OK with 3-4 months of closed windows and AC IF I have other months where I am not all closed in.
Thanks again.

Houston has great "open window weather" from about October all the way through April. Even at the absolute coldest someone from Chicago should have no complaints.

I take advantage of this, but I only opened my windows about 2-3 times this spring when cool fronts pushed through, mainly due to humidity reasons. Not a big fan of mold & mildew. There were more days to do this but I have to work M-F and by the time I get home, the evening humidity quickly comes back in full force.

Well the kicker is, when the weather is at its nicest, the allergies are at their worst. Who wants to open a window to let all that pollen come blasting in? no way, not me.

Where's my window caulk gun?

We don't really have allergy problems. Just oaks for me in April, and that's cured by an OTC antihistamine once a night for the month. Changing air filters monthly and using our trusty Dyson "Animal" vacuum every weekend keeps out all the dust and pollen out.
