After 25 (long) years, the consulate general re-opened last Monday, September 24th according to this press release. It's in Westchase, on the NE corner of Richmond and Briarpark. They are in a temporary office a floor above the permanent office until it is finished in a couple of months (before the end of the year).

Texas' Filipinos will no longer need to fly 1,500 miles and 2 time zones away to expensive, sprawly Los Angeles for consular services anymore. Passport renewals, the main reason for visits, will be available later. The new consulate will serve Texas, New Mexico (formerly served by the Los Angeles consulate) and the remaining surrounding states, along with Mississippi (formerly served by the Chicago consulate).

Now Houston has another consulate to add into its consulate count! This opening is coming on the heels of the long-awaited Australian consulate a few years ago and the Danish consulate opening a few months ago.

(It would also be nice for Houston if Canada moves its consulate general from Dallas or elevates the trade office to consul general status, and for Ireland to relocate its consulate general from Austin to add 2 countries to Houston's count. The other Texas Triangle cities also have consulates for neighboring Mexico, along with a few Central American countries.)

Canada one doesn't really matter. Almost anything to do with a Canadian consular office can be done online.

I think Canada has a law against putting consulates in cities without hockey.

Houston, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Atlanta, Boston, Miami (even tho it’s mainly a Latin American thing), and obviously NYC (UN headquarters) and DC (the capital) are the consulate hubs of America. Good to gain one of course
