Houston's music scene isn't diverse enough to warrant a music festival. Outside of rap/hip-hop, what other Houston musical genre has gotten notoriety?

Big acts across different genres have been discovered and people in Houston like all kinds of music, so that's what matters. There's almost 7 million people in the Houston metro... You can't honestly believe only a rap/hip-hop fest would work. This isn't Beaumont.

Back in the 1960s and early 1970s, Houston had a very strong blues, country, folk, and even rock scene. It all faded after 1975. Maybe it was related to Houston's more blue-collar tilt back in the day?

Houston has a pretty big Hip Hop, EDM, and country scene. What changed was overall music tastes in this country.

Similar to theme parks, are Houstonians going to need to leave the city in order to attend a quality music festival?
You are hating on Houston. How can you say no music festivals happen here?

I love how everyone in the state is attacking Houston for ANYTHING.

Houston is the only city in t'xas that shows love to the other lame cities here. Yet we get beat down.

Ive noticed Texas is a VERY INSECURE STATE. Houston is the only city to embrace HOUSTON. San Antonio? Nope. Austin? Lol Dallas? The most insecure city imo.

They try so hard to be an East coast city it's embarrasing.

If it wasn't for Houston Texas would be obsolete. Old fashion.

But it's okay. You keep trying to discredit Houston. That means you see us as a threat.

Jealousy is love and hate at the same time.

You misread my entire post and I'm one of the biggest Houston boosters on City-Data probably. Nowhere in that post did I hate on Houston.

No it's not. From June-September is when festivals shouldn't be held here. October-May can work real well, especially late February-mid May.

And yet most music festivals are scheduled in the summer months, when college kids are off from school....when it is indeed too hot in Houston.
