Hi,

My husband's company is sending him to Houston for three weeks and my son and I are going with him. We don't know the exact dates yet, but it will be within the next two months. I'm writing for your suggestions on things to do/see while we are there, both within the city and the surrounding areas. We'd really like to take some driving trips on the weekends (one-two hour drives) to see as much of Texas as we can, so I'd also appreciate your suggestions for this, as well. I was in Dallas years ago, but that's the only other place I've been in Texas. Also, your favorite restaurant suggestions are most welcome.

Thank you for the help!

Nearby (less than 1 hr):
1. Museum District - Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Natural Science, Holocaust Museum, the Houston Zoo
2. Space Center Houston
3. Kemah Boardwalk
4. The San Jacinto Monument/Battleship Texas
5. Take a tour of the Houston Ship Channel on the Sam Houston (check with Houston Port Authority in Times)
6. Galleria (shopping)
7. Moody Gardens and water park at Galveston
8. Galveston Beach
Little bit further (greater than 1 hour):
1. Brazos Bend State Park
2. George Observatory

There are actually alot of things to see. I am sure folks will chime in with a few more.

Regarding visits out of Houston, a useful book is Shifra Stein's Day Trips From Houston.

Confusingly it seems to be by Carol Barrington.

The ISBN is 0-7627-2750-0
