Well.... everyone interested can weigh in on a plan to build a $12 billion high-speed train between the city and Dallas.
The meeting is set for Feb. 5 and will be coordinated by the Federal Railroad Administration, which must approve plans for the Texas Bullet Train.
The meeting will be at Harris County is from 6 to 10 p.m. at Woodard Elementary School, 17501 Cypress North Houston Road. More information on the meetings can be found at the Federal Railroad Administration website.

This would be great if I ever wanted to go to Dallas. I don't think that will happen so I'd rather see that $12 billion spent on 1.6 breakfast tacos for everybody on Earth.

I am in favor of spending $12B on public transit infrastructure within Houston.

A bullet train to Dallas is dumb.

The HSR is supposed to be privately funded, though they are talking about using federally-supported financing of some sort.

My only gripe about this development is that the Houston terminal should have been closer to Downtown. Then again, the placement of the stop could spur new development in that chosen position.

I don't agree, the chosen spot makes sense for maximum access to the biggest employment centers (a lot of the travel will be business travel). It would be beneficial to add a strong transit connection to Downtown from there, though.

Nope. nowhere to put it, no easy way to get there, and too expensive for the benefit. The Northwest Mall location is perfect.

I doubt there would have been an issue with a downtown location, but nevertheless, the Northwest Mall location still presents a good spot.
