a couple of my nephews attend Aldine ISD and I was looking to see when they get out of school to coincide with my children. As I was on their site, I took a look at their latest bond projects, and came across their Career and Technical HS, also known as CTE High, which will open in the fall of 2018.

The CTE High School will provide new program opportunities for students in multiple areas, with 17 courses of studies that will offer job training and certification including Animation,Audio/Video Production, Computer Programming & Game Design, Construction Technology, Dental Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Physical Therapy Assistant, HVAC and refrigeration, machining and welding among others.

CTE will partner with HCC, Lone Star college, San Jacinto College, Texas A&M and Prairie View for dual credit opportunities and career pathways that lead to high earning jobs.

I think this is a great option for the students in Aldine and I think more school districts need to look into options like this. We know that some students struggle in college, and frankly, a college degree is not required for some jobs, especially high earning "blue collar" jobs like HVAC and machinery/welding.

I agree that we need to ramp up CTE education in high school. We can't depend on community colleges to do this.

I recall that in 2011 the principal of Barbara Jordan in Houston tried to close the auto repair classes and replace them with art history Efficiencies | Houston Press o_o
