Hello! I will be flying into Houston in October with my family (2 adults, 2 kids, and an infant). We will have 3 days to explore the area and I'd really like to find a place where we can get a "Texas experience" (wild west town, gunfight show, etc..).

It seems as though all of the good places are several hours away (near Dallas and such). I have found several ranches that we could visit near Houston, but I would much prefer the "wild west" experience. We can't go horseback riding or anything like that because we will have a baby traveling with us. Also, we are vegetarian/vegan, so we aren't looking for steak/BBQ, etc..

We don't mind driving 1-2 hours outside of the Houston area. I'd appreciate any suggestions! At this rate, it seems like we might end up spending our 3 days at the coast, but that doesn't seem very "Texas-y".

you are gonna be in the wrong part of the state for a "wild west experience" I think.I think the coast may be your best option at this point..

I'd just spend the days watching Westworld like the rest of us.

I can't think of anywhere remotely near Houston where you are going to find such an experience. In fact, when it comes to the Wild West, you would be much better served visiting Arizona or New Mexico, or if it must be Texas, the Big Bend area.

I'm afraid you might be misinformed about this city.

The Houston livestock show and rodeo would be perfect, but that's a spring event.

For 'gunfight show' just go to Third Ward, Gulfton, or Sunnyside 288 anytime after dark, or any bar/club anywhere in Houston after-hours, any time of the year . . . .

Yeah Houston is an international major city that lacks that "Texas" feel. Last time I was there I felt I was more in a major city headed east than the south, especially in the inner core. You'd get more of a Texas feel in Austin or San Antonio.

This is a good one - Brazoria County Fair and Rodeo Oct. 13 - 21.

Is that in your time frame?

And he said he would be traveling with 2 kids and an infant, so it would be perfect, LOL.
