Today, when coming back from work. A lady hit my car and then drove off. I was able to get her license plate number.

Question:

- What can I do?
- If I file police report what will happen?
- If I file a police report hit and run will my insurance goes up?

I would also add the damage is minimum. Only scrapes. I am afraid if I tell my insurance then my rates will GO UP!

Your insurance shouldn't go up for a no fault accident. Yes, file a police report as you got the plate number. Insurance claim will probably go under your uninsured motorist. What will happen is that when you go to sell your car, it will show that you had an accident and that will lower the trade-in value. If it is minimal damage and not really worth repairing, then I wouldn't report it nor file a report.

Not sure if it worth the headache, especially if its only scrapes. But if you are still in decision mode, at least file a police report to have everything documented.

File the report. You want this kook out there to hit other people? Most runners are either illegals, drunks or those with prior records. Do the right thing.

(Paula Abdul's "Straight Up" starts playing in background)

"Straight up, now tell me, do you really want us to exchange insurance information, oh oh oh? Or am I caught in a hit-and-run?"

But, in all seriousness, I agree that a police report being filed would be a good move :-).
