My husband and I just recently located from Austin to Houston for his job. We are expecting a baby within the next few months and want to rent in a family friendly area of Houston. My husband's work is right in the middle of downtown and we are currently living in "Eado" or East Downtown. Although this area is convientent for him to walk to work, it is not convienent for me as a stay at home mom. Safety is a huge issue in our apartment complex and I would like an area where I feel free to walk around outside/take the baby to a park etc.. while not being too far away from his work. I would like for my husbands commute to not be too terribly long so that he isn't spending all day on the road, and gets to spend time with the little one. I appreciate the advice!

Top priorities:
Safety
Shorter commute
Family friendly

We are going to need to know your rental budget to get this started...

$1600/month is kind of low if you are looking to stay inside the loop and be in nicer/safer area. I'm sure there are places, but bump your budget up by a couple hundred more and you'll have better options.

-Washington/Heights is a good area
-Museum District/Med Center could also work

Good luck.
