We just moved into our newly built house, and we already have a pretty big ant mound in the backyard, as well as one on the side. Also, couple of days ago, in the front, I saw lot of ant activity and what appeared to be termites (it had wings). However, after talking to couple of different folks over the phone, it sounds like they are either carpenter ants or fire ants (apparently they can have wings which I didn't know about).
I am pretty sure there are couple other bugs here and there in my yard as well. So, I am looking for recommendations on good pest control company/guys. I called Terminix but they were pretty expensive and I didn't see the value, maybe someone who feels otherwise can chime in. Then today, the guys from PurePest knocked on our door as they were treating couple other houses in our section (still getting built), and they also have a subscription plan that pretty much comes out to be $600/yr and they come every two months. Again, I am not sure if it is expensive or not as I don't have much experience with exterminators. So can you please recommend someone you use (or have used) and who was not super expensive, and with whom you have been happy with?
I am also willing to try DIY as well but PurePest guy said that bait stuff like Amdro doesn't work that well because though they kill ants but bait being bait attracts more bugs - not sure how true is that. And I don't know what other products should I use to effectively kill the entire colonies of fire/carpenter ants.

Thanks,

Go to Solutions on Bissonnet. They sell the professional grade stuff and you can do it yourself. You can buy a quart or two of the stuff and it will last you for YEARS. Probably less than $60. Very knowledgeable - they will answer any questions that you have as well.

BTW - PurePest guy was fake news about the Amdro.

Thanks. I'll check out the place. What pesticide do I need to buy? I have read Termidor, Taurus etc. but they are pretty expensive and it doesn't feel like they are needed. Perhaps I could be wrong.
Is Amdro the best stuff out there to get rid of fire ants and/or carpenter ants? Or do you recommend something else?
