If staying in Downtown Houston, which hotel would you prefer, the Marriott Marquis with the Texas shaped lazy river, or the Hilton Americas. We originally looked at cheaper hotels such as the Towneplacs Suites by Marriott or the Courtyard by Marriott West University, but we decided we would rather stay downtown. Which would you prefer, the Marriott Marquis or the Hilton Americas?

I'd go for the Marquis if I had to pick between the two. Can't lose either way though.

I haven't stayed at either, but have been in the public areas of both. The Marriott Marquis is newer and seems to have more of the amenities that appeal to a lot of people. Looking online, it appears that the rates they are citing for right now are very similar.

If it were me, I might prefer one of the smaller hotels situated in interesting old buildings that have been renovated. Marriott has several of those downtown. Also, some of the boutique hotels like The Magnolia might be fun to stay at, if you were to prefer place with less buzz and activity. To each his own :-)

Recently stayed at both

The marquis really is a convention center hotel with shops on base floors etc. The hilton is a bit more set apart from that. Unless you are getting a top floor park view room, the rooms are standard and one no better than the other IMO. At the marquis i was somewhat disappointed because for the room i booked i thought itd be a bit of a higher standard.

Both direct access to discovery green but the way marquis is situated its closer

Pool amentities would make me choose marquis

If pool and view of park/access to park doesnt matter, pick whichever hotel you get a cheaper deal from

Definitely pay for higher floor park view

I've stayed at the Hilton, it's nice for a convention center hotel. But the Marriott's pool deck looks pretty cool and is on our list of places to try.
