I'm moving to Houston for a job and I need help deciding where to live. I've done my research about good and bad neighborhoods, but I want some locals' insight.

My requirements: safe, fairly affordable, close to my job (who doesn't want these requirements haha).

My job is located JUST south of the 610 loop, east of Willow Meadows/Willowbend, or better - between A90 and highway 288.

I am well aware of the crime in sunnyside and don't want to live anywhere east of my job. I'm also well aware of the sprawl and Houston's traffic (though I'm coming from Seattle - it doesn't scare me too bad), so I want to live close to work. I'm 30, my fiance and I are a gay couple and want to feel comfortable where we live, but we also want a house with a yard and settle down in a community - so we're good with suburbia.

So help! Where should we live?? Westbury? Missouri City (hows that commute in?), Braeburn?

Define "fairly affordable". Also, are schools important to you?

Rent or buy?

Westbury is the gayborhood you are looking for. The problem is some people think it is a lot nicer than it really is. It is not a gheytto or anything, just looks 100% middle class which is why I am amused at the perception and pretentious attitudes (on this fine forum here).

No kids - schools are not important.
We're looking to buy. If renting, it'd be short term.
Fairly affordable as in.... I'm not looking to buy the cheapest house in Houston, but I'm also not a millionaire. The cheaper the better

What is your budget? Give a number.

Lease a centrally-located apartment for 6 mos. to a year. Learn about the city, its neighborhoods, its traffic patterns, etc., so you and your fiance can make an informed decision about where to buy a home.

Agreed. Especially if your fiance plans to work and doesn't know where that will be yet.
