Hi,
I'm looking to find out information about living in Greatwood and Bess Campbell elementary as a family with young kids. How is the traffic in/out of the neighborhood? Is there a good sense of community in Greatwood and in Campbell elementary? What are some (if any) negatives about Greatwood? Where can I find out more about the neighborhood and the pros/cons of living there?
The other area we are considering is Sienna Plantation but I feel that it is too far from shopping, movies, museums, that are along 59.
thanks in advance for any insight into these areas.

Greatwood is one of those rare neighborhoods in Sugar Land where you will find Kids playing outdoors in the parks and streets.Great sense of community.

Some of the best Christmas decorations on the houses in all of Sugar Land.

The elementary schools in Greatwood are good, both highly rated, but any centralized services from the school district (which is LAMAR not FBISD) like special ed, tend to be not so good.

Grew up as a kid in Greatwood and lived there from 1993 - 2010.

Agreed with the poster above - it is a family-oriented neighborhood with a sense of community, especially for one that size (population of 10,000+ residents.) If your children are interested in swimming, I would highly recommend looking at either of the neighborhood's two summer swim teams (Gators or Geysers) - they are a great way to meet other families and give the kids something fun/competitive to do in the Texas summer heat.

Getting in and out of Greatwood varies, depending upon which entrance you take. There are two off of the feeder road of 59 - the main one near Grand Parkway and the back entrance by the Brazos. Getting in and out of the Brazos entrance is far easier than the one located closer to the Grand Parkway.

The other three entrances are off of Crabb River (future Grand Parkway corridor) and FM 2759 toward Thompsons/Booth. The Crabb River entrances are getting better now that they are expanding that road, although traffic still backs up in the afternoon with traffic. The FM 2759 entrance requires that you drive down Crabb River (unless you are coming from Rosenberg and take FM 762), so it is not one that is used by most people.

For the most part, the houses are pre-2010 and date back to the late 80s, unless you build in the newest section off of FM 2759 (Greatwood Lakes.)

Overall, I think it's a great value for your money. You get the cache of the Sugar Land address, are zoned to one of the best high schools in LCISD, and pay a little less than your FBISD counterparts.

BTW Greatwood is not yet in Sugar Land but it will be annexed around 2018/2019 I believe.
