Does closing ac vents in unused rooms save $$. I've heard conflicting information.

(I live in a rental house so more concerned about the monthly bill than the ac unit)

In a properly designed system, no. The ducts can handle only so much airflow and closing off rooms that aren't used doesn't necessarily mean you will get more air to other rooms. It will also increase the static pressure at the blower which reduces performance. It can also cause leaks in the ducts or make current leaks worse because the pressure in the system is now higher. It won't really hurt the AC unit but can actually end up costing you more money.

Aren't you glad your landlord doesn't feel the same?

Most ac systems aren't designed properly. You really need to leave the vents open and the door open to the room.
