San Antonio seems to get relegated (incorrectly, perhaps) to being comprised only of Mexican food. The restaurants i have eaten at in San Antonio that seem to fall into that "hip" category, to me, are places like Bliss and Feast and places near the Pearl Brewery, for example.
Houston probably have lot more bars and night clubs or lot more people into going to bars and night clubs than San Antonio

I currently live in San Antonio but my husband has already moved to Houston...we'll be moving the family to IAH in a couple of months. I guess it depends where in San Antonio you live. I moved to SAT 6 years ago and I also thought that SAT was all Western, Cowboys, Southern but I was wrong. I live in the Far North Area (Stone Oak) and there is nothing 'western or country feeling' in this area (not that is bad.. or good.. just saying..).

San Antonio is a "Military city", Military Bases and Hospitals in different areas and most of the friends we've made these few years are or were in the Military and decided to retire here or still active. Our Military friends live near their assigned Base. Some live in the far West/borderline South to be close to Lackland. This is the SeaWorld area. Some other Military friends live in the Far East, by Live Oak, Universal City (Randolph AFB). Some live in my area and work either at hospitals downtown or Military Area, Ft Sam Houston or Camp Bullis not too far from here.

It takes my husband 3 hours from our door to "Katy" every Monday... and then he gets stuck in traffic 'forever' until he gets to work in North IAH.

If I had a choice, I would stay in SAT but we want to keep the family together. SAT is a lovely city, lots of things to do, see, eat. A city that is big but not too big and people are very friendly and welcoming. I hope I can find a similar area in IAH!..
