We are nearing empty nesting and need small lot, keeping up acreage is no longer feasible. Asking developers now which areas would allow 3 dogs and 3 cats...two of which will likely not last the year due to age, the barn cat would be happier to stay here.

Those rules are to keep the crazy pet owners who have like 20 animals in check when someone complains. Heck even feeding a stray animal in the city of Houston for a few days makes it yours according to animal control.

We were always a one dog family until people started dumping their strays off at our farm, we have rehomed over 35 animals in 10 years and domesticated more feral kittens than I care to remember...kids all go to college and leave us with their 'beloveds' trying to convince them they each need a guard dog/cat in their housing at college...

Just heard from one subdivision, no specific number...just said 'reasonable number of pets are allowed' hmmm..that is subjective...that is in Spring, TX

Yep. I recommend smaller subdivisions in the exurbs like Needville. Maybe Tejas Lakes allows more pets since everyone there has 1+/- acre lots. There are a few smaller, custom home subdivisions there too that might work.

It definitely won't be the big 800+ home subdivisions. Some place where horses are allowed usually means more pets are allowed.
