I have a large family and am looking to relocate to Texas due to work and climate.
Our ideal is to have a little bit of land (around 5 acres) and be in the country, yet close enough to civilization that we're not out in the boonies (20-25 minutes).
The main things we're looking at are
-Safe, non-sketchy areas
-Good economy for work, specifically building/housing.
-Price range under 200k.

I've been looking at Lake Conroe, Grimes, Navasota, and Hunstville. Not sure what would be the best place for us?
Any advice is appreciated.

Are you looking for only 5 acres of land or 5 acres of land and a house for $200k?

Well you can scratch Grimes/Navasota off that list immediately for that budget.

Land with a house, but the house itself is of no consequence because it would be temporary while we built something ourselves. It could be very small or outdated. What's wrong with Navasota/Grimes, if you don't mind me asking?

nothing is wrong with Navasota...its just small so you'll spend more time in College Station for basics such as a mall, major shopping, etc...

under 200K with a house and acreage is a thing of the past......I know folks out there who subdivided their land and added a house for nearly that

Even if you wanted to be 30 minutes away from the very outskirts of the Houston suburbs, you aren't going to find what you are looking for in the price bracket you are searching in.

And furthermore, even irrespective of budget, 5 acres zoned to good schools doesn't exist in the metro.
