Use har.com to narrow down neighborhoods in your budget. It's do-able in a day, but it will be hectic/crazy. I've moved countries before without even seeing the home I'll be living in, just my husband saw it. There are two kinds of people.

Rural is VERY hard to find in the Houston area. Commutes can be absolutely awful too, with flooding and hurricanes to deal with too.

There is a commute search section on har.com. Narrow down to 5-10 areas. Then search each one for homes in your price range.

I had a Nextdoor neighbor who lived in Bellville. They bought in suburban Houston in the Champions area. In 3 months, there was a for sale sign on the house and they went back to the country. The commute into town was no bother to them.

sHe even drove the kid back and forth from Champions to Bellville for his last two months of school.

It is a nice exurban area.

Interesting. My next door neighbors are from India (been here for 20 years). They tell me they are 'scared' to live next to anyone who is darker than a gringo, honky, haole, gweilo, gaijin even without a tan.

Spare me the PC propaganda.
