We are potentially relocating to the Houston area prior to the 2016-2017 school year. We have two children that will be in high school. One will be a Senior in high school and one will be a Freshman. We do not have a specific location we need to be in as the relocation would be for a sales job in the Houston area which the territory will also cover areas south of Houston such as San Antonio and Galveston. Our housing budget will be in the $200-$325K range.

The high school that our children go to currently has 1,233 students (minority enrollment is 18%), and is top rated with U.S. News rankings.

Education for our two children, low crime rates and a good neighborhood that fits our price range is the main factors that we will consider in choosing where to live.

A bonus would be a waterfront property if it would fit the criteria. However, that is not a major concern.

We are middle class, middle aged (40s), white folk with two high school teens.

What cities, neighborhoods and high schools should top our list?

Clearlake or Friendswood, mostly white middle class and within your price range. Exactly what I think you are looking for. Also close to water too.

Second Friendswood. You are not going to find anything at all in the City of Houston.

You could also look at Kingwood. Depends on where you want to live.

Friendswood is 76% white. Clear Lake is 54%.

Clear Lake is quite nice, and near the water.

the strength of Houston is its diversity. You will have a hard time finding a Caucasian dominated campus. kingwood or friends wood are the two most likely places. An Austin suburb might fit you better.

What about Clements?

Isn't that they go to high school or would that be high on minorities? Or is that the school that's majority Asian for minorities. That might be an okay minority and one people don't balk when they really look at minority numbers.

That's in Fort Bend/Sugar Land. With two kids and older you might be able to swing something in your price range.

Clements is the only school in the city that is highly ranked and not white majority. Outside of extremely competitive education, the school is probably lacking in other departments. Also, the budget might not work in First Colony with the exception of some smaller older houses.

There are better options elsewhere.

Clements is full of Asian students. It is hard to make top 10%. Kids with 2325 SAT are not in top 10%. My friend's son got perfect score on all ACT, PSAT, SAT subjects. He also won many math competitions at state level. His rank is top 6% at Clements.

For kids winning math counts and AIME, SAT is a piece of cake.
