will be a long day. Does route 59 in TX have lights at night? or it is dark?

any suggestions should I take I-55 then I-10? will it be better than taking I-40 and I-30 then US-59?

Go west thru Memphis, Arkansas, and take the route south. Youll get to pass thru some neat towns and plenty stops for food and gass. the i-10 route has lots of noman's lands inbetween

I've done this drive a lot of times and I couldn't agree more. The I-10 goes from empty and flat to industrial and flat to Houston. The skyline is best from the I-10 coming in, but everything else is better going through Arkansas and East Texas. Very pretty countryside and lots of towns.

I agree. It's a much nicer drive than I-10.

Its also dark on 59 at night, so watch for forest critters.

I do the drive from Houston to East alll the time via 59(family lives in the E. Texas) I have never hit an animal.
I did however hit a sheep on 45 one year. Also 45 tends to have jams on it for no reason. 59 has more ways to get around should a major wreck happen.

59 is a busy highway, just don't drive at dusk/dawn(deer time) and you'll be fine. Make sure to slow down when going through the tiny towns(Alto, Wells etc) its a nice drive. It doesn't have lights but neither does some parts of 45.

We drove both routes last year. I found I-10 through Baton Rouge to be horrible, but I found all the road construction east of Little Rock to be worse. 59/69 through East Texas is a cobbled-together mess. I wouldn't want to drive it after dark.
