OLD TOWN SPRING, Texas - The Greater Church of Lucifer doesn't stand out much from the rest of the turn-of-the-century buildings in Old Town Spring. Church founders say they wanted it that way and even chose not to put the word "Lucifer" on their sign along the sidewalk on Main Street. But even in the month before it opened in a small white building it shares with an incense and aromatherapy shop, it's been easy to find. It's been the one with Christian protesters on the front sidewalk. And, as of Thursday, it's the building with the large Pecan tree branch on its roof courtesy of a chainsaw-wielding vandal.

Vandalism, protests greet Luciferian church in Old Town Spring

Can you say First Amendment and freedom of religion ?

Religions aren't destructive. Extremists within all religions are destructive. Big difference. Of course, there are extremists in almost every aspects of life -- your work, sports, education, hobbyists, religion and more.

Extremism is a matter of perspective.

Plenty of destructive religious elements here in the USA - but they don't see themselves that way....

Extremism is more than perspective. It's a very real thing and invades so many areas of life and can often ruin a good thing. And no, most who are extreme don't recognize it. They are only "sharing their views" in a my way or the highway type attitude.

Unless it was a government official, it doesn't matter.

The Bill Of Rights protects people from the government not each other.

Extremism is everywhere. You'll find it in politics, environmentalism, journalism, race relations, etc. etc., and they all can be destructive. It's a human condition not a religious one.

The thing is, the vast majority of extremists in any aspect of our culture and society doesn't see itself as extreme.
