Hi everyone, I currently live in the West Houston area off of I-10, close to Katy. I have accepted a position working at East Houston Regional Medical Center. I am an RN and will be working night shift. My lease will soon expire and I am seriously thinking about moving because it will be a long commute(through traffic) across town. I have researched the zip code that the hospital is in (77015). I apologize for writing this, but the entire area, as well as the apartments, seems to be grim. I took the job because I got a lucrative offer. I want to live close to work due to the traffic here in Houston. Are there any good areas/apartments that are not too far from that hospital? Another thing-I can afford $1000 (or more) a month for rent but would like to only spend $700-$800 per month. It's nice to save money. Thanks ahead of time to those who respond.

Nothing in that area will be anything close to as nice as Katy. Commute from inner loop is very doable but apartments would be more like $1300/month. Another option may be Kingwood or Summerwood. That would be less traffic. Anything else would be country (Mont Belvieu), gritty (Baytown), grim (East Houston), far (Clear Lake), or expensive (Inner Loop). Good Luck.

As I drive on the beltway -- there are some apartments in the area of bw8 and hwy 90 / wood forest and wallisville area but I only see them while driving and don't know anything about them. You could go as one suggested to summerwood area along bw8. You could also go over the ship channel bridge Daily and pay the toll and look in south Pasadena near fairmont parkway. (the newer, nicer area) or in deer park.

From the east Houston medical center, Google Maps says Kingwood is 25 miles away, Clear Lake 17 miles, Summerwood 15 miles. All of those have tolls.

I was thinking the Clear Lake area is probably the best compromise to Katy living, commute, and budget. But traffic is also notoriously bad on that commute.

From that medical center you would take I-10 to the east beltway to Crenshaw in Pasadena to Space Center Blvd to get to Clear Lake. There are a few minor backups there but not like I-45. It also depends on the time of day as well.

This pretty much sums it up. Honestly, I would go Inner Loop in a smaller apartment - over something in a scary neighborhood.
