Hello,

My wife and I are going to be moving to Houston for a new job. We have a 1 year old and will be adding to the family at some point. I will be working in the Sugar Land area. I am hoping to keep the commute to around 30 minutes or so. Looking for suggestions on a nice place to buy a home. Our particulars:

-$225-$250 budget
-Newer home (built after 2000?)
-Big yard for kids/dog to play
-Good schools in case we are there for a while but mostly concerned for re-sell value. Probably a 50/50 shot we could be relocated within 2-3 years

Early research has pointed me to Cinco Ranch, Richmond, Pearland, or the southern part of Katy.

Thanks for the help!

Why not consider Sugar Land since that's where you'll be working? Sienna Plantation in Missouri City could be an option as well. The areas you listed would be great, especially for resale and good schools. Try looking at HAR.COM for homes in the areas you listed. Good luck!

You can't go wrong with Cinco Ranch in Katy or Shadow Creek Ranch in Pearland. There are some nice places in Richmond as well.

Search HAR for those areas and I think you'll find homes that will work for you.

Thanks for the help! Nothing in Sienna Plantation in our price range. Katy would be the top choice but most of the areas are 20+ miles from my office which is pretty much 45 minutes during rush hour or more.

Anyone with much info on Richmond schools? They seem hit or miss. Also, the area between 99 and 6, south of Westpark Tollway?

Thanks!

Frost Elementary in Richmond is a good school. I believe George Ranch High School is also a pretty good school. I'm not sure which neighborhoods are zoned to these schools, but the Richmond area is being developed nicely with new homes and shopping, so that could be an option as well. Aliana in Richmond is a master planned community you guys can check out.

Sorry, but Aliana starts more than 250k. However, the new elementary school is awesome!

I would look at lower part of Richmond, around hwy 59 but beyond 99. Schools are a hit/miss in Lamar Consol. ISD, you 'd have to research. If you buy in an unfinished neighborhood and have to move away in just a few years, as you say, it'd be hard to get appreciation
