Try the TERK indoor amplified antenna.

I have to move my HD antenna around to get channel 11 to come in. I use a Mohu paper thin hanging off of my media center door.

Wow, that means it's been 4 years since we cut the cable cord, after looking at my Amazon order history to get the antenna type.

I've used both of the ones mentioned and they're both good.

The TERK is a very directional antenna so it needs to be positioned towards the signal. The problem with this antenna is with weaker signals it's very susceptible to interference. I had the issue with channel 11 as well, some times of the days it was fine but other times I could get the signal but depending on if you move around in the room the signal would disappear.

I'm now using the Mohu Leaf 50 amp which is an omni-directional antenna. After searching around for the best spot for channel reception for a while I finally can consistently get channel 11.

I've read online that others use a variety of setups including signal boosters but for now I think I'm good.

Get a Roku as well if you don't have one already.

I'll second this. With the Roku and subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Prime(which we had already), we don't miss cable, and save $100+ per month. We also watch far less TV, since we aren't blindly flipping from channel to channel.

As long as the antenna is capable of receiving both UHF and VHF signals, you should be OK. (Weather and distance need to be taken into consideration too.)

I currently live in Las Vegas and use a directional UHF/VHF roof top antenna. After experimenting with smaller (indoor) antennas, I discovered that reception was A LOT better with the larger outdoor antenna.

I'm moving to Houston in several months and am bringing my antenna with me

Use this page to point your antenna
AntennaPoint.com - Antenna Locator

Use TitanTV for TV Guide

I live in North Houston and I use a AntennaDirect C2 antenna that I bought at Walmart for $80
When I scan my TV, I get about 125 channels, including channels 3-1 and 3-2 from College Station.

Most important thing is to have a clear view of where the antenna farms are located.

Here in Houston the TV antenna farms are located in Missouri City. Try to point you antenna to that area. Outdoor antennas are the best option if you can install one. Good luck.

As someone else mentioned, the antenna farm for Houston is outside of Missouri City. So you are only a few miles away based on your description. You don't need any outdoor or directional antenna to be able to pick up the OTA channels for your location, unless you're in a basement or there is some other strong interference right next to your house.

I recommend one of the basic flat indoor antennas that looks like a piece of paper and that you can hang on the wall or window. You can order one on Amazon for about $15. Works perfectly from my location about 18 miles away from the antenna farm (that's much farther away from the antenna farm than you are).

Something like this or similar:
